Without Trails

During the pandemic, enjoying nature and parks were welcome relief

Kudos to the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks System! They provided much- needed positive destinations for my husband, Don, and I during the pandemic, as I know they did for so many others. Central Ohioans are fortunate to have such outstanding gifts of nature so nearby.

Being active outdoors enthusiasts to begin with, Don and I took the opportunity to explore the numerous Metro Parks during all of the seasons. We especially appreciated the extra effort the rangers made to encourage folks to seek out the parks.

They posted storybook boards along the trails featuring the local flora and fauna. There were scavenger hunts with prizes, decorative holiday displays and explanatory “Did you Know?” signs located along the paths.

We particularly enjoyed an after-dark hike at Blacklick Woods along the festive lighted boardwalk. And even though the Nature Centers were closed, we were very glad that the restrooms remained open.
