Looking forward to a Kirby Park trail

Please allow me to take you into the near future in south Abilene.

It is a warm and sunny May morning, and you and your family are enjoying a hike on the recently completed seven-mile hike and bike trail at Lake Kirby Park.

You conveniently entered the trail at the trailhead near the park pavilion, located at the Maple Street entrance. Before departing, you use your mobile phone to take a picture of the QR code displayed on the trailhead sign. Your phone immediately launches a digital guide to the trail, including a map, comments about interesting sights and a guide to Kirby’s animal tracks.

As you head south on the trail, you soon enter the shade and coolness of a canopy of tall mesquite and juniper trees.
