Remembering 9/11

The Flame of Liberty Veterans Foundation in Los Gatos will host a remembrance ceremony Sept. 11 at the veterans memorial site on the Civic Center lawn, 110 E. Main St. The free event, billed as “a tribute to survivors, victims and heroes,” will mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with a concert at 12:30 p.m., followed by a program at 1 p.m.

Laboring on roadways

This Labor Day weekend, contractors with the Town of Los Gatos will seal pavement cracks on the stretch of Winchester Boulevard between Blossom Hill Road and Albright Way, sporadically disrupting traffic Friday-Monday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The street will eventually be resurfaced at the end of the month in preparation for the new bikeways to be installed in October.

Best foot forward

Members of the National Charity League Saratoga-Los Gatos Chapter wrapped up their senior class project last month. The class, which consists of 26 high school seniors, partnered with Shoes that Fit to donate more than 250 pairs of shoes to students at LUCHA Elementary School in San Jose. The National Charity League is an organization dedicated to service opportunities for mothers and daughters.

Oversight sought

Applications for the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District’s Measure E Bond Oversight Committee are open through the end of the month. The committee will help ensure Measure E funds — allocated to help maintain and upgrade school facilities, among other things — are properly spent. The committee will be made up of parents and local community members.

Applications are open through Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. To apply, visit www.lgsuhsd.org or email jmarashian@lgsuhsd.org.
